Rules
GENERAL RULES (for all competitions)No print or slide / digital projected image (dpi) may be shown which has been exhibited before in a competition for the same trophy, in this or any previous season. This includes slide and digital projected image duplicates which are not obviously different from the original, and reprints whose composition and treatment are essentially the same.
The Club will take reasonable care in handling members' work, but will not be responsible for loss or damage however caused.
Any dispute arising over the conduct of an internal competition will be referred to the President, Chairman and Competition Secretary whose majority decision on the matter shall be final.
All photographs submitted for competitions must have been exposed by the entrant and be their copyright.
Prints and slides must be clearly marked with the entrant's name, and a title is needed for the purposes of identification. Titles will be read out at competitions. Untitled and unnamed prints and slides will not be accepted.
At the Competition Secretary's discretion late entries may not be accepted.
Members submitting 6cm x 6cm slides, or formats other than 2" x 2" overall size must be prepared to provide a suitable projector.
Slides must be spotted on the mount at the bottom left hand corner as intended to be seen on the screen.
Digital projected images should have a maximum size of 1000 x 750 pixels. The file type should be Jpeg or Tiff. Files should be given in at least one week before the competition. Digital projected images should use the same title as the file name.
With the exception of the trade processed prints, all printing and retouching from film and digital originals must be the sole work of the entrant.
Commercial processing of the film which provides the negative/ transparency is permitted.
Black and White work toned entirely in a single colour will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black and white category. A black and white work modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes colour work.
Prints must be mounted on card (min 25cm x 20cm, max 50cm x 40cm overall mount size) but not framed. Otherwise the size of print is member’s choice.
For clarification of display, prints should be marked on the back with an arrow pointing to the top.
Except for set subject competitions, the subject matter is the entrant's own choice.
The judging will usually be carried out by an invited judge who is not a member of the Dorking Camera Club. Marks will be awarded for the Tate and Moller Competitions. For the remaining competitions, with the exception of the Battle of the Sexes, the Judge will award a first, second and third in each section and up to three highly commended awards in each section.
The Battle-of-the-Sexes has its own marking system.
ANNUAL PRINT COMPETITION
The competition is divided into three sections – Colour Prints Group A,
Colour Prints Group B, Black and White Prints.
1. The Derek Gardner Cup is awarded for the best Colour Print in Group A.
2. The Sir George Pollock Cup is awarded for the best Colour Print in Group B.
3. The Print Shield is awarded for the best Black and White print.
Each Trophy is held by the winner for one year.
Each member can enter a maximum of two prints in each of sections 1 and 3 or 2 and 3.
The choice of how many prints are entered in each section rests with the member.
The judge will award a first, second and third in each of the sections and up to three highly commended awards in each section.
ANNUAL SLIDE / DIGITAL PROJECTED IMAGE COMPETITION
Two trophies are awarded for the Annual Slide / Digital Projected Image Competition.
The Sir George Pollock Trophy (Flourish) is held for one year by
the winner of the competition.
The Lady Pollock Trophy (The Musicians) is held for one year by the entrant awarded second place.
Each member may enter a maximum of two slides / digital projected images.
THE MOLLER TROPHY
This competition shall consist of four rounds with a maximum entry of three slides / digital projected images per member per round.
The Moller Trophy will be held by the entrant with the highest total for his/her best three rounds, calculated from their best single slide / digital projected image from each round. Only in the event of a tie for first place will the score for the fourth round be taken into consideration to determine an outright winner. The judge will award marks out of ten for each slide, with ˝ marks as appropriate.
THE TATE TROPHY
This competition is for Colour and Black and White prints and is divided
into two Groups – A and B.
The Tate Trophy is awarded to the winner of Group A
The Solitaire Cup is awarded to the winner of Group B
Each Cup is held by the winner for one year.
The competition consists of four rounds with a maximum entry of two prints per member.
The entrant’s final score is calculated from the six best scoring prints. The judge will award marks out of ten for each print, with ˝ marks as appropriate.
THE SPECIAL SLIDE / DIGITAL PROJECTED IMAGE COMPETITION
Each year the Club shall hold a set subject slide competition.
The winner of the competition will hold the Lomas Trophy for one year.
Members may enter up to three colour slides.
The subject for the competition will be selected annually by the Committee.
THE SPECIAL PRINT COMPETITION
Each year the Club shall hold a set subject print competition.
The winner of the competition will hold The Tanqueray Cup for one year.
Members may enter up to two prints, either home processed or trade processed.
The subject for the competition will be selected annually by the Committee.
THE SURREY PHOTOGRAPHIC ASSOCIATION
KNOCKOUT COMPETITION
Rules for this competition are published separately by the Surrey Photographic Association and are available on request. The following have been added by the Dorking Camera Club.
The Selection Committee reserve the right to withdraw from this competition should they feel that the quality of work submitted does not reach a suitable standard.
The Herman Rothschild Trophy will be held for one year by the entrant whose print or slide has attained the highest total of marks for the duration of our involvement in the competition.

EXHIBITIONS AND EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS
19. The Committee shall make the decision to enter an exhibition or external competition.
20. Selection of prints, slides and sequences for an exhibition or external competition shall be made by a panel of four members nominated by the Club at a general meeting.
A minimum of three members will be required at any Selection Committee Meeting with the Competition Secretary/External Event Co-ordinator present as a non-voting member of the panel.
21. The Competition Secretary shall maintain a record, for use by the selection panel, of all prints and slides favourably received at previous internal and external competitions.
22. The Club shall have first call on all material entered for a competition or exhibition, until that competition or exhibition is concluded.
